José Luiz ha un background in chimica dei polimeri con particolare attenzione alla conservazione del patrimonio cartaceoin musei, archivi e biblioteche. Ha lavorato come scienziato della conservazione presso l’Istituto olandese per i beni culturali (1997-2003) e l’ICCROM (2005-2008). Dal 2005 ha svolto un ampio lavoro internazionale sulla gestione del rischio per il patrimonio culturale, comprese nuove metodologie e strumenti, formazione, ricerca e sensibilizzazione. Tornato all’ICCROM dal 2018, José Luiz attualmente gestisce l’Unità di pianificazione strategica e un portafoglio di progetti sulle collezioni, la gestione del rischio e lo sviluppo sostenibile.
