Session II – Libraries, archives and digital transformation. Between standards and necessary skills

The panel will provide an important opportunity for discussion and reflection on the evolving role of librarians and archivists in the digital age, with a focus on analyzing the new professional skills required by technological transformation. Strategies to promote continuing education and professional development will be explored to prepare these professionals to effectively manage emerging technologies while maintaining a firm anchorage to the profession’s ethical principles. The meeting, which will be attended by experts in the field, will provide an important opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities arising from the adoption of new technologies, which are radically transforming the management, preservation and accessibility of public information.
The discussion will focus both on the regulatory aspects that govern the field and on the skills needed to deal effectively with the ongoing change. Particular attention will be paid to the impact of digital technologies on professional practices, examining how they can improve and optimize the management, archiving and preservation of documentary and cultural heritage.
Key topics will include data management, digitization and digital preservation, with a focus on innovative strategies to ensure the long-term accessibility and security of information, taking into account the challenge of digital sustainability and the ability of institutions to adapt to a changing environment. Discussions will focus on concrete solutions to address emerging challenges, such as the adoption of international standards in digital asset management, privacy protection, and the enhancement of digital cultural heritage. The goal will be to promote an informed and innovative approach to document heritage management, ensuring that cultural and information resources are not only preserved, but also enhanced and made usable for future generations.
