Overtourism is a growing challenge for tourist destinations around the world. While it is synonymous with growing tourism demand, there is a real risk that it has negative effects on the environment, culture and local communities. For these reasons, when talking about overtourism, the discourse also moves toward the issue of sustainability understood in all its forms (cultural, social, economic, environmental).
Through the exchange of experiences and best practices, the panel aims to analyze potential change factors and barriers that can improve or hinder the management of this phenomenon. Among the future goals of cultural and tourism practitioners, it is a priority to develop methods and approaches for the sustainable management of tourism flows, capable of integrating and adapting to the different contexts in which the phenomenon occurs.
What, then, is the room for maneuver for cultural professionals and operators in order to mitigate overtourism? What solutions should be adopted for a future with more responsible tourism, capable of enhancing the resources of destinations and ensuring the well-being of local communities?
